SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Taiwan’s Formosa Chemicals and Fibre Corporation’s (FCFC) No 1 aromatics complex in Mailiao will undergo a turnaround at the end of July, a company source said on Wednesday.
The shutdown was part of a planned maintenance programme and was expected to last about a month, he added.
Details of how benzene, toluene and xylene (BTX) production capacity would be affected were unspecified but the company produces a total of 650,000 tonnes of aromatics per year, the source added.
Meanwhile, in line with the aromatics turnaround, the company’s No1 paraxylene (PX) and orthoxylene (OX) unit would be shut down at the same time. The facility produces 200,000 tonnes/year of PX and up to 100,000 tonnes/year of OX.
With the shutdown of the unit, FCFC was not likely to have spot OX cargoes to offer until after the second half of August, said another company source.
