HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US-based specialty materials company Rohm and Haas plans to build a 50,000 tonne/year polymer emulsions plant near Moscow, the company said on Thursday, marking its largest investment in Russia.

It would allow the company to reach the country's domestic market as well as those in the Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and the Baltic states, said Jean-Francois Mayer, director of the company’s markets in central and eastern Europe and Turkey.

The emulsions were to be used in paints, coatings and adhesives, Rohm and Haas said. The company failed to disclose any financial details.

Construction would start in the first half of 2008 and finish in early 2009, the company said. The plant will have an initial capacity of 50,000 tonnes, capable of being expanded to 70,000 tonnes.
