Mitsui Chem restarts Osaka phenol plant

SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Mitsui Chemicals, Asia’s largest phenol-acetone producer, restarted its plant in Osaka, Japan, on schedule this week after a routine turnaround, a company official said on Friday.

The plant, which can produce 200,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 120,000 tonnes/year of acetone, was operating at 100% capacity after resuming operations on 25 July, he said. It was shut for maintenance at the end of June.

Separately, Mitsui’s plant in Singapore is undergoing a maintenance shutdown, which is expected to be completed by 5 August.

During the turnaround, the plant’s phenol capacity will be raised by 50,000 tonnes/year to 300,000 tonnes/year, while acetone output will be increased by 30,000 tonnes/year to 180,000 tonnes/year.
