MUMBAI (ICIS news)--D1 Oils said on Friday its global jatropha plantation rights rose over 18,000 hectares in the second-quarter to 175,081 hectares.

"The increase is primarily due to planting in India under contract farming in the north east with Williamson Magor making particularly good progress," said UK-based biodiesel producer D1 Oils.

The company has signed two agreements, each for 500 hectares, with companies in Indonesia for pilot planting jatropha, which is expected to start in the fourth-quarter of 2007.

Commissioning has begun at its D1 20 refinery unit at Teesside, after its capacity was raised by 10,000 tonnes/year to 42,000 tonnes/year, and the company expects it to be in operation by September 2007.

D1 and its partners assist with the provision of seedlings and the arrangement of bank finance for planting, and offer a buyback of harvested seeds with an offtake agreement.

The company provides support and advice during cultivation, and monitors the condition of the crops.

D1 also said it is on track to plant 50,000 hectares of E1 elite seed in 2008.
