NEW DELHI (ICIS news)--Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) said on Monday that it was assessing the prospects of supplying purified terephthalic acid (PTA) to its subsidiary Bongaigaon Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (BRPL).
IOC is currently carrying out this assessment in order to revive BRPL’s polyester staple fibre (PSF) plant.
The 34,200 tonne/year PSF plant is currently equipped to utilise dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) as intermediate that is available from adjoining 45,000 tonnes/year dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) plant.
These plants are part of BRPL’s refinery-cum-petrochemical complex at Bongaigaon in
IOC chairman Sarthak Behuria said that the company had to first determine the viability of the entire initiative.
It would involve: transport of PTA from IOC’s refinery-cum-petrochemicals complex at Panipat in Haryana; conversion of PSF plant to PTA feed and transportation of PSF to markets in Northern and Western regions.
IOC has a 74.46% stake in BRPL.
