HOUSTON (ICIS news)--DuPont Engineering Polymers said on Tuesday it would seek to increase nylon resin prices by 12 cents/lb ($265/tonne) in North America effective 1 August or as contracts allow, citing cited higher costs.
The company said continued escalation of raw material, energy, transportation and logistics costs, coupled with increased product demand, were the reasons for the proposed hike.
Prices for extrusion grade nylon 6 and nylon 6,6 increased by around 5 cents/lb in June, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing. Injection grade prices were unchanged.
Buyers said they were surprised by the announcement and noted that demand was sluggish right now due to the normal seasonal summer slowdown.
It was unclear if buyers would accept the price increase.
The increase includes DuPont Zytel nylon, a nylon 6,6 resin.
