KPL said it was focusing on export markets hence its strategy was to increase production of FIBCs, which are also known as bulk bags or big bags.
The demand for FIBCs worldwide is growing 10% every year and is expected to accelerate to 15% in the future.
About 15 Indian firms produce FIBCs primarily for overseas markets. A small volume is sold to Indian export-oriented companies that use FIBCs for shipping their products abroad.
FIBCs are manufactured primarily from polypropylene fabrics. They are used for packing fertilizers, chemicals, cement, cereals and other solids.
KPL also manufactures high density polyethylene (HDPE) and polypropylene (PP) woven fabric and sacks.
