Japan’s Daiso restarts ECH plant after turnaround

SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Daiso, Japan’s largest epichlorohydrin (ECH) producer, restarted its 15,000 tonne/year facility last week, a company official said on Tuesday.

The unit in Matsuyama, Ehime prefecture, had been shut for a month-long turnaround.

He said the company had nearly completed debottlenecking work to raise the plant’s output by 5,000 tonnes/year to 20,000 tonnes/year, and expected to operate at the new capacity in September.  

"The earliest that we can export ECH will probably be in October or November as we have no availability now," added the official.

There were no plans to carry out expansion works at the producer’s other 35,000 tonne/year ECH facility in Mizushima, Okayama prefecture, which had a turnaround in March.

Domestic ECH prices in Japan were heard at yen (Y) 250-260/kg ($2.1-2.2) delivered (DEL) in August, unchanged from last month.
