SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Iran’s newest joint venture cracker Arya Sasol has started up as scheduled and is expected to produce on-spec ethylene in two weeks, a source close to the project said on Tuesday.
The 1m tonne/year cracker will be the first ethylene plant to start in the Assaluyeh petrochemical site which is located in the southwestern coast of Iran.
"We should have some stabilisation by September," another source close to the company said.
A 300,000 tonne/year low density polyethylene (LDPE) plant downstream of the cracker, also known as Olefins No 9, will start up by the end of the month, the source close to the project said.
A medium density PE (MDPE)/high density PE (HDPE) plant with the same capacity will go on stream two months later, he added.
"The cracker complex will run at 60-65% capacity initially, but it will be ramped up to full production in 12-15 months," the source said.
The cracker will also feed ethylene to downstream Pars Petrochemical’s 600,000 tonne/year styrene monomer (SM) plant.
Arya Sasol is a joint venture between National Petrochemical Co (NPC) and South African chemicals giant Sasol.
