KUNMING, China (ICIS news)--BP and Sinopec’s acetic acid joint venture plant Byaco is under construction in Nanjing and is expected to be ready in the second-quarter of 2009, said Gordon Wilson, general manager of BP Acetyls China on Tuesday.

Wilson was speaking at the China Acetic Acid and Derivatives Forum.

The Byaco acetic acid plant is a 50:50 joint venture plant between BP and Sinopec.

It is BP and Sinopec’s second joint venture plant after the 400,000 tonne/year Yaraco plant located in Chongqing.

Byaco will employ BP’s advanced Cativa technology and is touted to be the lowest cost producer in the east China market.

In addition to the Yaraco and Byaco plants, BP also has joint venture acetic acid plants with Petronas in Malaysia, with Formosa in Taiwan, and with Samsung in S Korea.
