TOKYO (ICIS news)--Japan-based Kashima Aromatics, a joint venture of Japan Energy and Mitsubishi Corp, is set to start up on time from January 2008, said a source with Japan Energy on Tuesday.

The new plant, located in the Ibaraki prefecture, will produce 190,000 tonnes/year of benzene and 420,000 tonnes/year of paraxylene (PX) from its 60,000 bbl/day condensate splitter.

The company planned to sell the benzene produced mainly on a contract basis in the domestic and international markets, the source added.

Japan Energy produces another 100,000 tonnes/year of benzene and 200,000 tonnes/year of isomer grade xylene at its Mizushima-based plant. A third plant at Chita produces 250,000 tonnes/year of mixed xylene and 400,000 tonnes/year of PX.
