SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--Sinopec subsidiary Maoming Petrochemical restarted its 250,000 tonne/year low density polyethylene (LDPE) unit in south China on Wednesday after outage, a company source said.

The unit in Maoming, Guangdong province, was shut on Saturday for repair due to an unexpected mechanical problem.

The inventory of the material was low at around 1,200 tonnes due to the outage, the source said on Thursday.

Due to tight supply, its LDPE material was priced at yuan (CNY) 12,200-12,400/tonne ($1,609-1,636/tonne) ex-warehouse south China on Thursday, up CNY50-150/tonne from last week.

Maoming also runs another 110,000 tonne/year LDPE unit at the same site. The company cut the ex-works offer of the film material by CNY200/tonne to CNY12,500/tonne on Thursday because of slow sales, the source said.

Distributors kept LDPE offers unchanged or CNY50/tonne lower at CNY12,800-12,900/tonne ex-warehouse south China on Thursday amid slack trading.

Meanwhile, Maoming’s 220,000 tonnes/year linear LDPE (LLDPE) unit was shut down for a brief maintenance on Wednesday and was expected to restart in one or two days, the source said.
