SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--LG-Dow Polycarbonate (PC) started up its second PC line in Yeosu, South Korea, this week, two sources close to the company said on Thursday.

“We expect on-spec commercial production next month,” one source said.

The 65,000 tonne/year line will double the company’s PC capacity to 130,000 tonnes/year.

The new facility is expected to produce mainly GP (general purpose) moulding material, which is used in the manufacture of office equipment such as printers and fax machines.

The company – a joint venture of US major Dow Chemical and South Korea’s LG Chem – had said earlier that part of the output would be sold to fast-growing markets such as China.
