SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Polychem, Indonesia’s sole monoethylene glycol (MEG) maker, will have to keep its No 1 line shut for the next few months due to difficulties securing a spare part, a source close to the company said on Thursday.

“The No 1 line was shut down about three weeks ago due to a damaged part in the air separation unit,” he said, adding that the part would have to be custom made and shipped out only in about four to five months as no spares were available.

The No 1 line supplies around 90,000 tonnes/year MEG while the larger No 2 line produces 125,000 tonnes/year.

Polychem restarted the No 2 line 19 July after a brief three-day outage.

The producer was said to be struggling to fulfill domestic demand as a result of the outage.
