US Q2 petchem production up from last year - NPRA

HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US production of 15 petrochemicals reach 49.9bn lb (22.6m tonnes) during the second quarter, up 4% from the same period last year, according to figures released on Thursday by the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association (NPRA).

Second-quarter production rose 2% from the first quarter, the NPRA said.

The petrochemicals surveyed include ethylene, propylene, butadiene, benzene and mixed xylenes (MX). The NPRA did not release production data for individual chemicals.

Second-quarter inventories of seven petrochemicals reached 4.3bn lb, a 12% drop from the second quarter of 2006, the NPRA said. Inventories dropped 7% when compared with the first quarter.

From the first quarter of 2007 to the second quarter, production of 10 of the 15 petrochemicals surveyed increased, while inventories of three of the six petrochemicals surveyed dropped.
