SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Iran’s Marun Petrochemical will stop exporting ethylene a year from now, when counterpart Amir Kabir’s low density polyethylene (LDPE) plant in Bandar Imam starts up, a source close to the company said on Wednesday.

The 300,000 tonne/year LDPE plant, expected to go on stream in the second half of 2007, will receive 200,000 tonnes/year of ethylene feedstock from the 1.1m tonne/year Marun cracker, the source said.

“The remaining 100,000 tonnes/year of ethylene for the LDPE unit will probably be sourced from the 520,000 tonne/year Amir Kabir cracker,” the source said.

Marun currently exports 150,000 tonnes/year of ethylene to Europe and Asia. The export availability will increase when Marun achieves full production.

Marun and Amir Kabir are both subsidiaries of Iran’s National Petrochemical Co (NPC).
