SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Iran’s Karun Petrochemical is due to start up the country’s first toluene di-isocyanate (TDI) plant in October, a source close to the company said on Wednesday.

Output from the new 40,000 tonne/year facility would be exported to several markets including India and China, the source said.

The plant is the first phase of an isocyanates complex currently under construction at Bandar Imam, which also includes a 40,000 tonne/year methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) plant, a 30,000 tonne/year aniline facility and a 56,000 tonne/year nitric acid line.

The MDI plant was expected to start up in the fourth quarter of next year, the source said.

Karun Petrochemical is 40% owned by National Petrochemical Company (NPC) of Iran, 30% by Chematur of Sweden, 10% by Hansa Chimie of Germany and 20% by Petrochemical Industries Investment Co (PIIC).
