HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Equistar has restarted its LaPorte olefins unit in Texas after a lightning strike and flooding forced its closure on 16 August, a company source said on Thursday.

The unit was running at reduced rates, and it was not known when it will be fully operational, the source said.

Equistar is a Lyondell company, which declared a force majeure on vinyl acetate monomer and acetic acid as a result of flooding at the same site where the olefins unit is located.

A turnaround at the olefins cracker planned for September was still on schedule, the source added.

The LaPorte olefins unit has a nameplate capacity of 790,000 tonnes/year, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.
