SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Shanghai Petrochemical, a unit of Chinese energy major Sinopec, has targeted to bring on stream a 600,000 tonne/year paraxylene (PX) plant next year, a company source said on Monday.

Work on the proposed plant at Jinshan district, Shanghai, has started and it will use naphtha from the company’s refinery as feedstock, he added.

The exact startup date will depend on equipment delivery, the source said.

Part of the output will be for captive use while the remainder will be sold, he said.

UOP was selected in late April to supply technology, basic engineering services and equipment for the project which will also produce 280,000 tonnes/year of benzene.
