LONDON (ICIS news)--The European Commission (EC) has approved BP and Associated British Food's joint venture to build a bioethanol plant in the UK, the EC said on Thursday.

The two companies along with Du Pont are joining together to design, construct and operate a bioethanol plant in Hull, which from 2009-2010 will produce and market bioethanol primarily for use as a blending material for biofuels.

“Given the limited overlap of the parties’ activities the commission found that the proposed transaction is not likely to affect competition in the European Economic Area or any substantial part of it,” said the EC.
