SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--India’s Finolex Industries will not resume full production at a 130,000 tonne/year polyvinyl chloride (PVC) unit in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra state, until the middle of the month and not early September as originally planned, a company source said on Wednesday.

“We expect to procure enough vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) feedstock to ramp up operating rates only by then,” the source said.

The line has been operating at 50% capacity for the past month due to a shortage of VCM.

“We are not too concerned about the delay in resuming full production as demand has been rather sluggish,” the source added.

The extension of the monsoon season into September has dampened demand in India and delayed the start of the peak festival buying season.

Finolex's second 130,000 tonne/year line in Ratnagiri continued to run at full capacity, utilising its existing VCM inventory, the source said.

Finolex is India’s second largest PVC producer, after Reliance Industries.
