Ming Dih completes Taiwan EPS expansion

SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Taiwan’s Ming Dih Group, an expandable polystyrene (EPS) producer, has completed expansion works at its plant this week, a company source said on Thursday.

The combined capacity at the unit in Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan, was raised to 166,000 tonnes/year from 130,000 tonnes/year. The unit comprises a 60,000 tonne/year line and a second 70,000 tonne/year line.

The second line was expanded by 36,000 tonnes/year to 106,000 tonnes/year.  

The expansion works were initially scheduled to be completed in August but was pushed back to September as typhoons buffeted the island in August.

The company is conducting trial runs at the newly expanded line this week and is targeting to produce EPS resins next week if everything goes smoothly, the source said.

The company has another 100,000 tonne/year EPS unit in Zhongshan, southern China and a 30,000 tonne/year unit in Thailand.
