SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Bayer MaterialScience, part of German chemicals and healthcare group Bayer, plans to double its polycarbonate (PC) capacity in China by September 2008, a source close to the company said late on Monday.
Capacity at the plant in Caojing, eastern China, will be increased to 200,000 tonnes/year from the current nameplate output of 100,000 tonnes/year, he said.
Bayer also runs an upstream bisphenol-A (BPA) unit, which has a nameplate capacity of 100,000 tonnes/year, at the same site. Some traders said the company planned to build another line, but no details could be obtained.
Both the PC and BPA units came on stream in October last year.
The company could not be immediately reached for comment.
