SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Asia’s biggest olefins producer Formosa Petrochemical Corp (FPCC) has started channelling naphtha feedstock into its smallest cracker in Mailiao as scheduled, a company source said on Wednesday.
“We have begun feeding naphtha feedstock to the cracker about one hour ago [16:00 local time]. So a restart is on schedule for Thursday,” the source said.
The No 1 cracker, which has 700,000 tonnes/year of ethylene (C2) capacity, was due to start on 20 September as planned after it was shut for almost a month to fix a faulty compressor.
“We have fixed the compressor problem during the shutdown. Some of the compressor parts needed to be changed,” he added.
The cracker is expected to achieve on-spec production by Thursday morning at the latest, he said.
FPCC also planned to shut down its No 2 900,000 tonne/year cracker for maintenance on 25 September, after the No 1 cracker’s restart, he added.
