SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--India’s largest polyvinyl chloride (PVC) producer Reliance Industries restarted its vinyls complex in Vadodara on Thursday after an extended maintenance shutdown, a source close to the company said.
“The restart was delayed by a week due to technical problems,” a second source close to the company said.
The facility, comprising PVC and vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) plants with a capacity of 60,000 tonnes/year each and a 36,000 tonne/year ethylene dichloride (EDC) unit, was originally scheduled to restart by 13 September.
The shutdown had a minimal impact on the Indian PVC market, as the plant’s capacity was very small and demand was sluggish, suppliers and traders said.
Subdued demand due to an extended monsoon season had prompted Indian producers to roll over PVC prices for September shipments.
Other major Indian PVC producers include Finolex Industries and Chemplast Sanmar.
