TORONTO (ICIS news)--DuPont and Australian biopolymer company Plantic have agreed to jointly develop and market biopolymers made from Plantic’s technology, the US chemicals major said on Wednesday.

The companies plan to develop resins and sheet materials based on high-amylose corn starch as a renewable feedstock. End-use applications would include cosmetics, personal care and food packaging trays, caps and containers, DuPont said.

In addition, DuPont will market and distribute Plantic's starch-based resins and sheet products under its Biomax brand.

The cooperation would help Plantic to expand the reach of its biopolymer technology worldwide.

The deal with Plantic was part of DuPont’s strategy to nearly double revenues from non-depletable resources to $8.0bn (€5.7bn) by 2015, it said.

Financial terms were not disclosed.
