HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Iran will develop a liquid natural gas terminal without Total if the French company pulls out of the project for political reasons, according to a report published on Wednesday by Reuters.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy has proposed harsher trade sanctions against Iran to discourage the country's nuclear development.

In particular, Sarkozy has warned Total to avoid investing in Iran, the Reuters report said.

So far, there was no sign that Total was going to abandon the project, according to the report.

However, if it does leave, Iran will pursue the project by itself, according to quotes that Reuters attributed to the nation's oil minister.
