HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Ecological sustainability is becoming a more important economic business metric for any new product or process for the chemical industry, according to a study released on Tuesday by SRI Consulting.

“Surprisingly, a number or companies have reported economic as well as environmental benefits since implementing eco-efficiency decisions,” said Bob Davenport, director of the Safe & Sustainable Chemicals group at the consultancy.

The Eco-Efficient Chemical Processes Report compiled comprehensive data on alternative chemicals or chemical derivatives that can be used in a particular process or product, including ecological impact.

“In almost every case, an alternative product or process was shown to yield cost savings as well as lower environmental impact,” said Eric Linak, senior consultant.
