LONDON (ICIS news)--Polimeri Europa’s high impact polystyrene (HIPS) production in Feluy, Belgium is down due to technical problems, a company source said on Thursday.

“The plant went down earlier this month and we expect it back up shortly,” the source said.
Polimeri Europa’s PS production at Feluy runs at 160,000 tonnes/year, split evenly between general purpose polystyrene (GPPS) and HIPS.
GPPS was not affected by production issues.
The PS market was slowing down considerably in October after strong growth during 2007.
Sellers estimated PS volumes this year to be running at above 4% over 2006.
Prices were under downward pressure in October, however, due to the lower settlement of October styrene.
The October styrene contracts were done in a range of €1,005-1,060/tonne ($1,415-1,493/tonne) FD (free delivered) NWE (northwest ?xml:namespace>
The mid-point of the new range represented a drop of €18/tonne from the mid-point of the September range.
