SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Japan’s Mitsubishi Chemical is running its phenol-acetone plant in Kashima at full rates this week after unstable operations for the last month, a company official said on Thursday.

“Our plant has returned to normal this week,” he said, without revealing further details.

Traders said Mitsubishi had bought some phenol and acetone from the spot market in September although the company declined to comment on the reports.

The plant can produce 250,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 150,000 tonnes/year of acetone.

Mitsubishi also runs two derivative bisphenol-A (BPA) units, which were not affected by the production issues at the Kashima unit. It operates a 100,000 tonne/year plant in Kashima and a 120,000 tonne/year facility in Kurosaki.
