Air Products wins NASA liquid nitrogen contract

LONDON (ICIS news)--Air Products has won a turn-key contract worth $16.8m (€12m) to build a liquid nitrogen plant for the US space agency NASA, the industrial gases company said on Thursday.

 

The plant would be designed, built and supplied by Air Products at NASA’s National Transonic Facility (NTF) in Hampton, Virginia, and was scheduled for start-up in 2008.

 

NTF uses liquid nitrogen to produce a high quality, high altitude test environment for aircraft development and refinement, said the company.

 

Air Products has supplied NASA for 50 years, providing liquid hydrogen for every space shuttle launch, Mercury and Apollo missions, it added.

 

Air Products was not immediately able to provide the capacity of the new plant.
