SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--Taiwan’s Formosa Chemical & Fiber Corp (FCFC) plans to bring on stream by early next year its new purified terephthalic acid (PTA)-isophthalic acid (PIA) swing line at Loong-der, Ilan county, a company source said over the weekend.

“The construction works should be completed by December, or early January at the latest,” said the source.

With the tests to be carried out, the source said the new 400,000 tonne/year unit should come on stream and start commercial production “within the next quarter”.

The company last said that the new unit would start anytime between the end of this year and early next year.

This new facility would be the second PTA line by FCFC at Loong-der. The company has an existing 700,000 tonne/year unit at the northern Taiwanese town.

FCFC also has two 500,000 tonne/year PTA lines at Mailiao on the western coast of the island, and a 600,000 tonne/year plant in the eastern Chinese port-city of Ningbo which has yet to start up pending an official approval from the Chinese government.
