TOKYO (ICIS news)--Japan Energy Corp subsidiary Kashima Oil Co completed the construction of a new yen (Y) 4.5bn ($40m) jetty at its Kashima refinery in Ibaraki prefecture on 19 October, the parent company said on Monday.
The new jetty is capable of handling 12,000-tonne vessels, the company said.
The move was to respond to the expected increase of shipments of paraxylene (PX) and other petrochemical products, as a new complex was expected to start commercial production in January 2008, it added.
Oil refiner Japan Energy has been building a Y70bn petrochemical complex at the Kashima refinery since September 2006.
The new Kashima jetty would enable the company to optimise transports of products using large ships and respond to demand increases more flexibly, it said.
