BRUSSELS (ICIS news)--Oleon's fatty acid output has overcome the odds in 2007 and is set to strengthen in 2008, a company source said on Tuesday.
Oleon, one of the major European fatty acid producers managed to cover its contractual obligations in 2007, despite a fire in January 2007 that damaged part of its 190,000 tonne/year distillation facility at the Ertvelde site,
Due to the incident, 100,000 tonnes/year of distillation capacity was lost, said the source, however, alternative arrangements were set-up in order to avert any supply issues.
The reconstruction of the damaged unit is expected to be completed between December 2007 and early 2008, where full distillation capacity will be restored.
The company will also boost its fatty acid production by around 25% in 2008 with the construction of a new fatty alcohol plant at the Ertvelde site.
The new unit will include a splitting tower, as well as distillation and hydrogenation facilities and is set to raise total capacity to around 240,000-250,000 tonnes/year by the fourth-quarter of 2008.
