SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--BP Zhuhai plans to start up its new 900,000 tonne/year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) facility in southern China in December, company sources said Wednesday.

Although slightly later than the original startup date of November, the company did not seem to consider December as a delay. “We’ve always said that we plan to start in the end of 2007,” said one of the sources.

The new plant in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong will be the first PTA unit to use BP’s latest technology, which can produce up to 1m tonnes/year in a single-line facility.

BP Zhuhai, a joint venture between oil and chemicals giant BP (85%) and Fu Hua Group (15%), currently operates a 500,000 tonne/year PTA plant at the same Zhuhai site.
