HOUSTON (ICIS news)--ExxonMobil’s Beaumont fluid catalytic cracker (FCC) in Texas was expected to be down for 2-3 weeks due to ongoing production issues at the site, market sources said on Thursday.

An ExxonMobil spokesperson was not immediately available for comment. One source said the disruption was related to a problem at the unit that occurred last week.

ExxonMobil’s total cracking capacity at the refinery is 108,500 bbl/day. ExxonMobil also has an olefins unit in Beaumont with capacity for 826,000 tonnes/year.

The disruption at the refinery has placed additional upward pressure on US refinery-grade propylene (RGP) spot prices, market sources said.

RGP for October traded on Wednesday at 54.00 cents/lb ($1,190/tonne), up from deals done at 52.00 and 53.00 cents/lb last week.

Spot RGP prices have jumped by more than 15% in the last 30 days. Market participants attributed the increase to supply constraints, high feedstock prices and continued strong demand.
