HOUSTON (ICIS news)--The US Coast Guard is sending divers to secure a ruptured crude oil pipeline in the Gulf of Mexico near Port Arthur, Texas, a spokeswoman said on Tuesday.
The diving team should start securing the pipeline on Tuesday at about 12:30 Houston time (18:30 GMT), said Coast Guard spokeswoman Niya Williams.
The pipeline was leaking in two places, releasing about 2,000 gal (7,570 litres) of oil into the Gulf, the Coast Guard said.
Pressure on the pipeline has since been secured, and two boats are cleaning the spill, the Coast Guard said.
The pipeline is four miles (6 km) offshore of McFaddin Beach, which is about 20 miles southwest of Port Arthur, Williams said. For the latest chemical news, data and analysis that directly impacts your business sign up for a free trial to ICIS news - the breaking online news service for the global chemical industry.
