TORONTO (ICIS news)--Foster Wheeler has been retained to work on proposed expansion projects at the Kern refinery in Bakersfield, California, the US petrochemicals engineering firm said on Thursday.

Foster was hired by NTR Acquisition, which earlier this month announced plans to acquire Kern.

NTR plans to convert the facility into a world-class heavy crude oil refinery, expand conversion capacity and improve product yield.

Foster did not disclose specific capacity or financial details.

According to its website, the Kern refinery currently makes diesel, gasoline, jet fuel, fuel oil and aliphatic solvents, mainly for the California market and neighbouring states.
