SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Nan Ya Plastics, Asia’s largest bisphenol-A (BPA) spot seller, plans to restart its 130,000 tonne/year No 4 line by the end of next week after it suffered an outage last week, a company source said on Friday.
"We are experiencing slight mechanical faults in our No 4 line since 9-10 November, but we expect the line to recover by the end of next week," the source said in Mandarin.
Nan Ya Plastics has experienced a spate of technical errors at several of its BPA production lines over the past two months, and this latest shutdown comes on the heels of the shutdown of its 90,000 tonne/year No 1 line on 6 November, which was also expected to be restarted next week.
With the recent slump in BPA demand, the temporary shutdown of the two lines was not expected to cause any tightening in supply, as inventory levels in the key China spot market was heard to be comfortable, traders said.
Other BPA majors in Asia include Kumho P&B Chemicals, LG Chem, Nippon Steel and Mitsubishi Chemical.
