LONDON (ICIS news)--US exports of phosphate fertilizer were unspectacular in October, according to data revealed by The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) on Monday.

Exports of diammonium phosphate (DAP) reached 419,913 short tons in October, down 30% on October 2006.

The major recipient was India, which took 69% of the total or 289,450 short tons, followed by contract shipments to Japan, which amounted to 51,092 short tons, or 12%. Other recipients were Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia and Peru.

US monoammonium phosphate (MAP) exports reached 149,322 short tons, up 17% on October 2006 levels. Canada was the main outlet, taking 65,042 short tons, 44% of the total, followed by Brazil with 56,068 shot tons, or 38%.

US DAP/MAP exports have been modest throughout 2007, thanks to an extremely bullish domestic market, which has reduced export availability. A rationalisation of production facilities in the US at the end of 2006 further reduced output.

Major US phosphate fertilizer producers include Mosaic, Mississippi Phosphates and CF Industries.
