Rail strike talks persist as German chems recovers

LONDON (ICIS news)--The German chemical industry appeared to have recovered on Monday from the disruption caused by last week’s rail strikes as rail workers union remained locked in negotiations with Deutsche Bahn.

 

Many chemical producers and traders in Germany said they were not experiencing any further impact from the 62-hour strike.

 

The German train drivers union (GDL) said there would be no further disruption to train services until Wednesday at the earliest.

 

The GDL was planning to holding talks with Deutsche Bahn on Tuesday, but the rail company had yet to improve on its pay offer, the union added.

 

“What is clear that we will not have negotiations that are based on Deutsche Bahn’s current offer,” said GDL leader Manfred Schell.

 

France entered its sixth day of rail strikes, with railway workers expected to be joined by other public sector employees on Tuesday.

 

However, it was reported that unions were prepared to enter negotiations with the government on 21 November.
