SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Toray Plastics Malaysia (TPM), southeast Asia’s largest acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) producer, has restarted two of its lines that were shut for a turnaround, a company source said on Tuesday.

The two lines, with a combined capacity of 110,000 tonnes/year, were shut a month ago for maintenance.

The company operates four ABS lines at Prai, Penang state, each with a capacity of 55,000 tonnes/year.

Toray will expand its Malaysian ABS output by 110,000 tonnes/year by end-March or April next year. The new line will produce 70,000 tonnes/year of regular resins and 40,000 tonnes/year of transparent resins.

The company also operates a 60,000-tonne/year polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) unit in Kuantan, Pahang state, in a joint venture with BASF.
