LONDON (ICIS news)--The gates at the jointly operated Bayer AG and Lanxess AG caprolactam production site in Antwerp were blocked by workers on Wednesday morning in protest against restructuring plans, a Bayer spokeswoman said.

She said only staff from external companies were prevented from entering the site and production and deliveries had not been affected.

The blockage was to profile the dialogue between the work's council and the company, she added.

Lanxess and Bayer announced plans in September to outsource some technical work and cut fire-fighting and medical staff, amounting to 127 job losses from Lanxess and a further 205 from Bayer.

Bayer spokeswoman said the company did not think job losses would be as high as initially predicted.

A Lanxess spokeswoman was not immediately available for comment.

This is the second time workers have set up a blockade outside the site since the announcement of the restructuring plans.
