03 December 2007 13:00 [Source: ICIS news]LONDON (ICIS news)--New York-based financier Len Blavatnik takes second place in the ICIS Top 40 Power Players listing published on Monday.
The Access Industries owner will create a $41bn sales global leader in polypropylene (PP), high density polyethylene (HDPE) and low density polyethylene (LDPE) following the merger of Lyondell and Basell.
Blavatnik used Access Industries and Basell to buy Lyondell for $19bn in 2007. He bid to acquire Huntsman for $9.6bn, but in the end lost out to Hexion Specialty Chemicals, but is reportedly targeting other petrochemicals assets.
He was beaten to top spot in the 2007 ICIS Top 40 Power Players listing by SABIC CEO Mohamed al-Mady.
Other influencers in chemicals from North and South America this year, according to ICIS, include ExxonMobil president Michael Dolan, who made it in at number five, DuPont chairman and CEO Chad Holliday and Jose Carlo Grubisich, CEO of Brazilian polyolefins major Braskem.
