LONDON (ICIS news)--INEOS NOVA’s 205,000 tonne/year high impact polystyrene (HIPS) line at Wingles in France is still down after a power outage brought output to a halt on 1-2 December, a company source reported on Friday.
“We are making attempts to restart production and should be fully back up by next week,” the source said.
The source stressed that, while stocks were low, the company would be able to fulfil all its commitments to its customers.
PS producers were aiming for an increase in December, but this was proving difficult as the December styrene monomer contract had slipped by more than €20/tonne ($29/tonne).
“We are looking for a decrease in PS this month. This might be difficult, but we certainly won’t be paying an increase,” said one large buyer on Friday.
Major European PS producers include BASF, Polimeri Europa, Dow and Total Petrochemicals.
