HOUSTON (ICIS news)--An oil tanker spilled more the 66,000 bbl of crude oil off of South Korea's west coast, in what is the nation's largest offshore leak, media reports said on Friday.

Earlier reports had said the spill was as high as 110,000 bbl. Those estimates have since been revised.

The spill occurred after a crane-carrying vessel hit the oil-tanker Hebei Spirit off of Mallipo beach, about 93 miles (150 km) southwest of Seoul, reports said.

The tanker was carrying about 1.8m bbl of crude, reports said. It has since stopped spilling oil.

Before Friday's spill, the largest one in South Korea occurred in 1995, when more than 30,000 bbl of crude and fuel oil were leaked, reports said.
