SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Samnam Petrochemical will restart its No 4 500,000 tonne/year qualified terephthalic acid (QTA) facility in Ulsan, South Korea on Monday following a fortnight-long turnaround, company sources said.

“The plant was shut down in late November, and the turnaround was to last till 10 December,” one of the sources said.

The company had originally planned the shutdown to start in mid-November and restart by the end of the same month, but that was delayed slightly as the company needed to build up enough inventories for contract supplies.

Besides the No 4 unit, the company operates three other lines and produces an additional 1.2m tonnes of QTA and purified terephthalic acid (PTA) at its Ulsan site.

Samnam is a joint venture by Japan’s Mitsubishi Chemical (40%), South Korea’s Samyang Petrochemical (40%) and GS-Caltex Oil (20%).
