HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Ships awaiting entry to Houston began moving on Tuesday after fog had lifted, the US Coast Guard said.

Sixty-four ships had been awaiting entry as a result of heavy fog, according to the Coast Guard. Eighteen ships were waiting to move out of the area.

Inbound traffic resumed at 8 am Houston time (1400 GMT), said Coast Guard spokesman Petty Officer Mario Romero. Pilots would attempt to move at least five ships during the period of 8-11 am and would attempt to move at least five more ships after that, he said.

The Houston area is home to the largest concentration of refining and petrochemical facilities in the US.

Fog could return to the area Tuesday night, according to media reports.

Romero pointed out that fog last year held up ship traffic for a nine-day period.
