LONDON (ICIS news)--UK refinery operators and filling stations are not sure what to expect after fuel action group Transaction 2007 announced protest action against high prices for Saturday, a UK Petrol Industry Association (UKPIA) spokesman said on Wednesday.
“It’s not clear what action is going to take place or what impact it will have,” he told ICIS news.
He added the industry was better prepared than they were for similar protests in the autumn of 2000 and there were better guidelines on what action constituted a peaceful protest.
Transaction 2007 said in a statement released on its website that there would be a nationwide protest, which is to extend to Northern
“This action will be initiated at a refinery or storage depot somewhere near you. Anyone wishing to support action is requested to make your way there at the alotted time,” the group said.
It added that the date and time of the protest had been released to help the public prepare for the action and then emphasised that any protests would be legal.
Media liason officer Chris Hunter has reiterated on website forums that it will be a protest action rather than blockade. Transaction 2007 is refusing all media inquiries.
Transaction 2007 is the same group that organised farmers and haulage contractors in 2000 into major protests, including the blockading of refineries, which saw the country's road transport network grind to a halt.
