LONDON (ICIS news)--CF Industries is committed to a $1.2bn-1.3bn ammonia/urea project in Peru following agreement on feedstock supply, senior vice-president for operations David Pruett said late on Tuesday

CF struck a gas supply deal with Argentina's Pluspetrol late last month.

The complex would have the capacity to produce around 1m tonnes/year of granular urea and 80,000-100,000 tonnes/year of surplus ammonia, Pruett said at the Fourth Fertilizer Investor Conference in London..

Pruett said it would be the first major petrochemicals project in Peru and be operational about four years after the necessary engineering and financing were completed.

Output from the complex would be sold to central and Latin America, probably with the help of trading company Keytrade, which was recently partly acquired by CF.

Pruett said the Keytrade’s acquisition and the nitrogen complex in Peru were both part of the company's general plans to build global growth platforms.
